New Kathak Dance Performance: Urmi – The Creative Urge

This coming Sunday, Maneesha Sathe will be presenting, “Urmi – The Creative Urge,” an original Kathak performance.

Ms. Sathe is one of India’s most famous Kathak dancers and choreographers. She trained with the legendary Kathak dancer Gopi Krishna, who, among other accomplishments, set a world record for the longest continuous Kathak dance at 9 hours 20 minutes.

Since 1975, she has been running the Maneesha Nrityalaya Kathak Dance Academy in Pune, India. Ms. Sathe is known for both her technical excellence and her ability to find the balance between lasya and tandav.

Our very own +Tasherit Sturm Dahal has had the opportunity to train with Ms. Sathe over the course of many years, and needless to say we’re excited to see what she has in store for us. The entire NDS dance team will be attending and we hope to see you there, too. Please come up and say hello if you see us!

The event page can be found on Google+. “Urmi – The Creative Urge” will take place in Waddell Theater (1st floor of the Waddell Building), located on NVCC’s Loudoun campus. Tickets are $15 and are sold at the door.
