Meaning Wood apple

Kapittha mudra, according to mythology, originated from the time when the gods had completed churning the ocean of milk that would release the nectar of immortality. Afterward, Vishnu used the Kapittha hand gesture to pull Mount Mandara out from the waters.

Application

Used by many performing artists to interpret an emotional or physical state. This mudra can also be used when interpreting actions such as:

  • milking cows
  • holding flowers gracefully
  • grasping the end of a saree or a robe
  • covering the head with a veil
